WTA: Francesca Schiavone ends her active career

Francesca Schiavone ends her career at the age of 38. The greatest success of the Italian is her triumph at the French Open 2010.

Francesca Schiavone announced her retirement at the US Open. “I say goodbye with all my heart,” she said at the press conference.

Schiavone celebrated eight tournament victories, including Roland Garros in 2010, beating Samantha Stosur in the final.

The following year she lost the final against Li Na in Paris. Schiavone was on the WTA tour for 22 years. In 2006, 2009 and 2010 she was awarded the Fed Cup trophy. Bye Francesca!
