US Open: ComeOn! Match of the day: Semifinal between Novak Djokovic and Kei Nishikori

Novak Djokovic and Kei Nishikori will meet in the semi-final of the US Open 2018 and provide for the new edition of the semi-final of 2014 in the ComeOn! Match of the day Djokovic wants to pay back for the defeat.

Four years ago Kei Nishikori had the lead and celebrated one of the greatest successes of his career in the semi-finals of the US Open. In four sets, the Japanese defeated his Serbian opponent Novak Djokovic. The 2018 edition of the last major of the year will once again feature a duel between the two superstars.

The omens are once again for the “Djoker” to win this time. Nevertheless, the Japanese outsider is hoping for another coup. In the quarter-finals, Nishikori eliminated Marin Cilic after five sets and over four hours of play, making his second appearance in the last four of the tournament clear.

The 28-year-old’s physical condition gives hope for a great duel against the reigning Wimbledon winner. Both players are characterized above all by their strong physique and grandiose defensive qualities. Nishikori is fast on his feet and gives only a few balls lost.

But Djokovic is also in great shape and, after a flawless tournament so far, is the title contender number one in Flushing Meadows. Against Nishikori, the Serb will have to act aggressively, long baseline duels against the safe Japanese will cost a lot of strength. This can be particularly decisive in the weather conditions in New York City.

After days of heat, which was also a problem for Djokovic, it’s a bit cooler on semi-final Friday – but the humidity is still extremely high. Even a closed roof in the event of rain can change the conditions in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Djokovic called for a change for the coming year after his quarter-final win over John Millman. According to the “Djoker”, air conditioning is a good alternative.

In the duel between the two superstars, the main focus will be on fitness and which of the two players will be better able to deal with the conditions at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center. Here betting provider ComeOn! Djokovic is clearly the favourite and spends 1.17 for a win for the double tournament champion. Nishikori is assigned the underdog role and enters the race for the final ticket with a score of 5.35.
