Elina Svitolina is looking for a new coach. The cooperation with Thierry Ascione was terminated by mutual agreement.
Elina Svitolina won three titles this year – and these were by no means the worst: Brisbane at the beginning of the year, then Dubai and finally Rome, where she beat Simona Halep in the final like in 2017. This puts the Ukrainian in a solid fifth place in the annual ranking, and the trip to Singapore can in all probability already be booked.
At the four biggest tournaments, however, there was nothing to win this year: In Australia, it was enough to reach the quarter-finals, Elise Mertens was too strong there. Mihaela Buzarnescu does not lie Svitolina, as seen in the third round of Roland Garros. In Wimbledon the bankruptcy against Tatjana Maria as a prelude. And in New York, a 6-0 win over Anastasija Sevastova in the third set is in the balance.
Reason enough for Svitolina to change something in her coaching position. According to the management of the 23-year-old, Svitolina is now breaking new ground, separating from coach Thierry Ascione, with whom she had worked since the end of 2016.
