WTA: Tatjana Maria fails in opening match in Quebec

Fed Cup player Tatjana Maria retired in the first round of the WTA tournament in Quebec, Canada.

Almost two weeks after their second round finish at the US Open the world rankings-62. from Bad Saulgau had to admit defeat against wildcard starter Rebecca Marino from Canada in 69 minutes 2:6, 2:6.

Maria could not use a single one of her six break points and had to give her service four times in the duel with the number 264 in the WTA ranking.

Mona Barthel (Neumünster) will start into the hard court tournament on Wednesday as the second German participant against Sofia Kenin (USA), who is listed in fifth place, with a prize money of 250,000 dollars.
