The WTA tournament in Tokyo is coming up and the field is full of top stars. Among others, US Open winner Naomi Osaka and Caroline Wozniacki will take part.
The spectators at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo can look forward to top-class tennis. Five top 10 players will compete in the Japanese metropolis.
But the hottest file in Tokyo will be local heroine and new US Open winner Naomi Osaka. To start off, the 20-year-old will either have to deal with a qualifier or Dominika Cibulkova. Osaka has a walk-through in round one.
In addition to the shooting star, defending champion Caroline Wozniacki will serve. The world number two triumphed last year in Japan and starts her mission to defend the title with a walk-through as well. Then either Camilla Giorgi or a qualifier will wait. The number four in the world and second in the seed list Caroline Garcia has a hard start ahead of her.
After a walk-through there is either a duel with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova or Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Also in the top 10 are Karolina Pliskova and Sloane Stephens. Pliskova – currently number eight in the world, threatens a duel with her twin sister Kristyna Pliskova, who will face Daria Gavrilova in the first round.
US Open winner from 2017, Sloane Stephens, starts off with Wawrinka friend Donna Vekic and faces a difficult game.
The first-round match between Ashleigh Barty and Coco Vandeweghe will also be an exciting one. Especially explosive, as the two celebrated their double title at the US Open together a few weeks ago. The duel between Garbiñe Muguruza and Belinda Bencic from Switzerland also promises to be a success.
