ATP: “Lucky Loser” Yannick Maden wins in Metz against Mischa Zverev

Yannick Maden is in the second round of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Metz. Maggots, who slipped into the field after Philipp Kohlschreiber’s rejection, defeated Mischa Zverev 7-5, 4-6 and 6-1.

Yannick Maden got the best out of his Monday double shift in Metz: the 28-year-old from Stuttgart jumped in after missing qualification for Philipp Kohlschreiber, who was absent at short notice, had a hard exchange of blows with Mischa Zverev. Maden won round one 7-5, in the second set Zverev managed the break in the ninth game, served for 6-4.

At the beginning of the third act Maggots broke and took a 3-0 lead. Zverev had another chance to return in his fourth game. But he missed three breakballs. After 2:09 maggots had won the game.

Maden had entered the qualifying tournament as number one seeded – but had to admit defeat to Matthias Bachinger in the second round. Bachinger will play Jaume Munar on Tuesday.

However, Maximilian Marterer has already retired. The German Davis Cup player lost to Ricardas Berankis from Lithuania in three sets. Defending champion Peter Gojowczyk will play Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Tuesday. The winner of this game will face tournament favourite Kei Nishikori.
