Davis Cup: Dominic Thiem will also be there in 2019

Following Austria’s entry into the World Group, Dominic Thiem has also given his approval for the Davis Cup in 2019.

How many top players will really compete in the new Davis Cup format starting next year is still in the stars. At least one of them gave his okay: Dominic Thiem confirmed his participation after his victory over Australia on Sunday. “Yes, sure – I am highly motivated,” said Thiem after a report in the Kleine Zeitung in Graz.

Thiem is hoping for another home game, but would also be present at an away game. The appointment: The weekend after the Australian Open on February 2nd and 3rd, which is okay for the Lichtenwörther in all possible combinations. “You can stay in Australia, India is on the way back, if it’s South America, then I’ll stay in South America. But we’re hoping for a home match, of course.”

Thiem was relieved that he could close the bag in the fourth set against Alex de Minaur, on the other hand he knew about his comfortable position. “I was completely relaxed, I was in a win-win situation. If I win, it’s good if I lose, Dennis would have taken the fifth point. No matter against whom,” says Thiem, who will be able to rely on his team-mates again in 2019: Dennis Novak, Oliver Marach as well as the Melzer brothers would also have given their commitment for 2019, the Kleine Zeitung continues.
