WTA: First Tour victory since February: Lisicki in the round of 16 in Guangzhou

Former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki celebrated her first victory on the WTA Tour after an injury break during her tennis comeback.

In the tournament in Guangzhou, China, the 28-year-old from Berlin won against the Russian wild card player Vera Zvonareva – also a former Wimbledon finalist – in only 73 minutes 6:4, 6:2.

Lisicki had paused for about three months after an injury in Miami in March. She last entered the round of the last 16 in Budapest in February. In the world rankings, the former number twelve has now slipped down to position 233.

Besides Lisicki, Andrea Petkovic will also be competing in the tournament in China. In her opening match, the woman from Darmstadt will meet the Australian qualifier Lizette Cabrera.
