WTA: Maria Sharapova hangs up the bat for 2018

Maria Sharapova has finished her 2018 season. She wants to prepare herself calmly for the coming year.

Maria Sharapova’s appearance at the US Open, where she lost in two sets to Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain in the round of 16, will have been the Russian’s last in 2018. That’s what the Russian said about her team.

The Russian will not be competing in Beijing and Moscow, as originally planned, nor will she defend her title in Tianjin.

Two semifinali stand for Sharapova, who is currently still in 24th place in the world rankings, in the balance for 2018: one at the beginning of the year in Shenzhen (defeat against Katerina Siniakova) and at the last major tournament before the French Open in Rome, where Sharapova lost against Simona Halep.
