ATP: Kyle Edmund – the hardcore Liverpool fan

Kyle Edmund is first and foremost a first-class tennis player who has already clinched great victories on the ATP tour in his still young career. By the way, the Briton is also a fan of the football club FC Liverpool – with heart and soul, as it turned out now.

Football is a religion in England and much of the UK. England is home to probably the best football league in the world and the big money in terms of broadcasting rights and player transfers also lies on the cold island.

Of course, a sports crazy Englishman like Kyle Edmund is to associate certain feelings with football. More precisely with the football club FC Liverpool. The club around coach Jürgen Klopp belongs to the top clubs of the Premier League and has loyal fans. So faithful that the 23-year-old has his nerves under control during the Liverpool games.

“I’ve loved the jersey, the fans and the atmosphere since I was very young. On the tennis court I have everything in my own hands, but when my team plays I have no control and I am very nervous,” explained Edmund before his Laver Cup debut.

In the second edition of the fun tournament, Britain’s number one in Team Europe will serve alongside Roger Federer, Novak Djokvic and Co. Before the tournament in Chicago, he added: “As a child I had Liverpool sheets, Liverpool curtains – everything! I’m a big fan!”

With his love of football, the Briton is not alone on the tour. Federer is a fan of Basel, Rafael Nadal’s football heart beats for Real Madrid. The stars of the ATP scene can be seen again and again at important matches of their clubs and pictures with the football players are also not unusual.
