Laver Cup: Federer is looking forward to Chicago weekend

Superstar Roger Federer is looking forward to the Laver Cup after his disappointment at the US Open as co-organiser of the second edition.

From Friday to Sunday, eight players from Europe and the rest of the world will face each other in Chicago. The world ranking fifth Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) will be there again, while Wimbledon and US Open champion Novak Djokovic (Serbia) will compete for the first time. At the premiere in Prague in 2017, the Europeans won 15:9.

“I’m very happy with how I feel. I took a week off after the US Open,” said World Ranking runner-up Federer, who surprisingly failed in the last Grand Slam of the year in New York in the round of 16 against Australian John Millman, in an interview with tournament partner Mercedes.

However, this faux pas could not cloud his personal record. “I’ve had a good year. Every year you win a Grand Slam is a good year,” said the Swiss maestro, who won the Australian Open for the sixth time in January.

In Chicago, Federer sees defending champion Europe back in the lead. “I have a good feeling about us as a team here. I think Team Europe is more appreciated with me, Djokovic and Zverev,” said Federer, but he warned: “Team World has many high-profile players like John Isner.

Roger Federer also sees himself as a co-organizer. “This is a highlight for me. I have invested a lot of time and energy. I also want to add a touch of myself,” said the 20-time Grand Slam winner and added a pious wish: “I hope that the players will go home and think and wish that the Laver Cup would be every week.
