Grigor Dimitrov has won the first game at the Laver Cup 2018. The Bulgarian defeated Frances Tiafoe from the USA in two sets in Chicago.
On the first day of the Laver Cup the teams feed themselves laboriously. That’s the special thing about this competition, but it’s also its great charm: on Friday you get one point for a match win, on Saturday two points – on the final Sunday three points. This keeps the tension until the end, a decision before the start of the Sunday games is ruled out.
Nevertheless, Europeans were happy to take the first counter: Grigor Dimitrov beat Frances Tiafoe 6-1 and 6-4 in the opening match at the United Center in Chicago, but the American had the chance to play his team into the Davis Cup final in Zadar on Sunday, but Borna Coric lost in five sets.
Dimitrov, on the other hand, is playing a rather weak season, but did not have to move from sand to the black ground in the Chicago hall. After the first set had gone smoothly to the Europeans, Tiafoe fought his way back after falling behind in the second set. In the end, however, Grigor Dimitrov’s victory was safe.
