Laver Cup: Zverev with comeback win over Isner – Europe leads 5:1

Alexander Zverev led Team Europe 5-1 at the Laver Cup in Chicago. The German number one defeated John Isner in the match tiebreak.

Lost a set for the first time in the Laver Cup, but finally won the game. That is Alexander Zverev’s balance after 3:6, 7:6 (6) and 10:7.

Zverev started nervously, serving his first service game. That was enough for Isner to present in the first sentence. The Hamburg native, however, did not give up anything, especially on his own serve.

Isner frivolously missed his second match point in the tie-break of the second set at 6:6: On serve Zverev, the American came to the net, but was unable to take advantage of Zverev’s short praise to one point. Zverev accepted the gift with gratitude, took the set equaliser with a backhand pass ball after 84 minutes.

Isner started the match tiebreak with a double mistake. Zverev added, never really got embarrassed again – and returned after a total of 100 minutes for the final defeat against Isner at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami.

Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios, who will play the second singles match of the day, demonstrated just how different the preparations for a professional tennis match could be. While the Swiss bid farewell to the cabin in the first set, Kyrgios remained on the court until the end of the match.
