WTA: Tashkent: Mona Barthel follows Maria in round two

Mona Barthel fought her way through against the local wildcard player Nigina Abduraimova in three sets.

With 4:6, 6:3, 6:3 the number 94 of the world won after almost two hours playing time and is now in the round of 16 of the tournament in Uzbekistan, which is endowed with 250,000 US dollars. There she meets Evgeniya Rodina from Russia.

Barthel thus follows Tatjana Maria, who had already made it into the round of the last 16 on Monday. The fifth seeded Maria beat Natalia Vikhlyantseva 6:1, 6:2 and now plays against Margarita Gasparyan.

Maria and Barthel are the only two players from the DTB squad to compete in Tashkent.
