Tournament favourite Fabio Fognini has reached the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Milan. The Italian will face Taylor Fritz from the USA.
Philipp Petzschner may be going for his head – after all, Fabio Fognini had cancelled the planned joint appearance in Chengdu’s doubles due to exhaustion. The Italian’s double form would have been excellent – after all, Fognini won the title at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament there last week alongside Matteo Berrettini in St. Petersburg.
However, things don’t go that badly in individual cases. In Chengdu, Fognini is already in the semi-finals after a straight two-set win over Matthew Ebden. The first seeded Fognini needed only 66 minutes to leave the field after a 6:4 and 6:2 win.
In the preliminary round on Saturday he will meet Taylor Fritz, who won the US American duel against Sam Querrey 7:6 (1) and 7:5. An important step for Fritz not only in Chengdu, but also with regard to his participation in the #NextGen-Masters in Milan.
