ATP: Struff opened in Tokyo quarterfinal against Shapovalov, Tsitsipas demands Nishikori

The quarter-finals of the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Tokyo have been decided. Besides surprise man Jan-Lennard Struff, the higher rated players were able to assert themselves on Thursday.

Jan-Lennard Struff will open the quarter-final Friday in Tokyo at 12 noon local time, opponent of the Warsteiner will be Denis Shapovalov. The young Canadian had already beaten Stan Wawrinka in three sets on Wednesday, but had problems with his right knee towards the end.

In addition to the German Davis Cup winner, the favourites prevailed at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in the Japanese capital, albeit in different ways. Stefanos Tsitsipas had to fight hard with Alex de Minaur, but the three-set victory brought the Greek a meeting with the local favourite Kei Nishikori.

Wimbledon finalist Kevin Anderson also had to face Frances Tiafoe over the full distance, while the South African will face Richard Gasquet in the final eight. The latter won twice in the tiebreak against Nick Kyrgios.
