WTA: Czech Petra Kvitova also in the WTA finals

Two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova has qualified as the fourth player for the WTA final in Singapore from 21 to 28 October.

The 28-year-old Czech benefited from Dutchman Kiki Bertens’s last 16 from the tournament in Beijing on Thursday. Thus Kvitova is not to be taken any more the place in the eight-headed participant field. In 2011 the left-hander had won the title at the season finale – at that time still in Istanbul. Once again Kvitova had reached the final (2015).

The current Wimbledon winner will also serve in Singapore. Angelique Kerber from Kiel had already secured her fifth ticket for the tour final at the beginning of September. The world number one Simona Halep (Romania), who currently has to pause due to a herniated disc, and US Open Champion Naomi Osaka (Japan) are also fixed.

Kerber had reached the final of the WTA Final 2016, but had to admit defeat to Dominika Cibulkova from Slovakia. Prior to that, she had already participated in the WTA finals in Istanbul in 2012 and 2013 and in Singapore in 2015.
