Peter Gojowczyk continues the negative run of Jack Sock. The German defeats the US boy in three sets at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai. Mischa Zverev and Maximilian Marterer have already retired.
Gojowczyk won a fierce game 6:4, 6:7 (6) and 6:3. In the second set, the 29-year-old had already led with a break, but then had to give up his serve and finally lost the passage in the tiebreak.
At the beginning of the third section, the Munich player had to fend off two break points. “Gojo” pulled his head out of the loop, brought his service through and Sock immediately took the serve to 2-0. The 70th in the world rankings could no longer be deprived of this lead. In the next round he will meet Damir Dzumhur or Marton Fucsovics.
For Sock, the recent defeat is another low point of the year. 19 defeats are matched by only six victories. In the Race to London, the US American is only in 159th place. In the coming weeks, the 26-year-old will have to defend a tournament victory at the 1000cc tournament in Paris-Bercy.
For the other Germans, on the other hand, things did not go according to plan. Mischa Zverev had to admit defeat to Nicolas Jarry in the tiebreak of the third set. Final result: 6:4, 3:6, 7:6 (5) for the Chilean.
Maximilian Marterer also has to pack his bags on the first lap. The 23-year-old lost to the Frenchman Jeremy Chardy with 3:6 and 6:7 (5). Especially bitter: Marterer missed a second round duel with Novak Djokovic due to the defeat.
