David Ferrer has once again set an exclamation mark: The Spanish veteran won the ATP Challenger tournament in Monterrey in the final against Ivo Karlovic.

A full 75 years of life and tennis experience had gathered on Sunday in Monterrey in the final of the 150,000 US dollar ATP Challenger tournament – in the end, youngster David Ferrer (36) beat Ivo Karlovic (39) in two sets. After 69 minutes, the Spaniard won 6:3 and 6:4.

For Ferrer, who won 27 individual titles on the ATP Tour, neither the 125 points for the ATP World Ranking nor the 21,600 US Dollar prize money will be of great relevance – the French Open finalist of 2013 is expected to end his active career at the end of this season. Ferrer won his last big title in 2014 in the Vienna Stadthalle.

On their way to the Monterrey final, Ferrer had defeated Sebastian Ofner of Austria in the quarter-finals and benefited from the US American’s retreat against Ernesto Escobedo in the preliminary round.
