Li Na, Goran Ivanisevic and Mary Pierce have received the most votes in the first online vote on their entry into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
The tennis fans have spoken – and played their part in who will be admitted to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, in 2019. Li Na, the Chinese icon who had to end her career earlier than planned due to knee problems, collected the most votes in the first voting.
Second place went to Goran Ivanisevic, 2001 Wimbledon Champion, ahead of Mary Pierce. These three former top players receive a bonus of three percent (Li Na), two percent (Ivanisevic) and one percent (Pierce), respectively, on the basis of the votes in the final vote for admission to the Hall of Fame.
which in turn means that the other five candidates still have a good chance of winning a place of honour. So is Thomas Muster, who is in the lottery together with Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Sergi Bruguera, Conchita Martinez and Jonas Björkmann.
Who will finally be admitted to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2019 will be announced at the Australian Open in January next year. This year Michael Stich was introduced to the exquisite circle.
