ATP Challenger: Dennis Novak beats Matthias Bachinger in Ortisei

Good start for Dennis Novak at the ATP-Challenger-Tournament in Ortisei. The Austrian Davis Cup player defeated Matthias Bachinger from Germany by a narrow margin in three sets.

Bachinger was the favourite in the game in South Tyrol. Not so much because the German is four places ahead of Novak in the ATP World Ranking – who is currently ranked 145 – but because Bachinger played his way into the final of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Metz a few weeks ago.

However, Novak won the 64,000 Euro Challenger in Ortisei after a playing time of 96 minutes with 1:6, 6:3 and 7:6 (1). In round two, the winner of the match between Dustin Brown and Salvatore Caruso awaits Novak.

At the Challenger tournament in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic both Gerald and Jürgen Melzer have reached the second round. The latter meets there on the Portuguese Gastao Elias, Gerald has to deal with Paolo Lorenzi. Sebastian Ofner had no chance against Christian Garin from Chile.
