ATP/WTA: Tennis Integrity Unit blocks three referees for life

The Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) has taken three Thai referees out of circulation for life for manipulating matches and betting fraud.

The possibilities of manipulating matches as chair referees are obviously also sufficiently great in tennis. In any case, the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) has cast a lifelong spell on three officials. The three chair referees, all from Thailand, pleaded guilty to the accusations.

The TIU is a joint initiative of the Grand Slam tournaments, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) of the ATP and the WTA.

In an official release, the panel stated: “The lifelong suspensions will come into effect immediately and prohibit persons from ever again acting as officials or attending events organised by umbrella organisations of our sport”.
