Novak Djokovic reached the semi-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 Tournament in Shanghai and beat US Open opponent Kevin Anderson 7-6 (1) and 6-3.
It was the new edition of the US Open Final and also the criminal exciting match between Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson. In the fight for the semi-finals of the Rolex Shanghai Masters, both players gave each other nothing from the first point on.
The spectators saw a high-class match between number three and eight of the world, but only few chances for a break. This was mainly due to the poorly seeded Anderson, who had seven aces on his account after five games played. Djokovic, on the other hand, shone with his usual strong physique and great counter strokes.
The only breakpoint of the first set for the “Djoker” Anderson fended off, stayed cool and set for 3:2. The South African should also get a chance: At 6-5, Djokvic came under pressure and Anderson scored a set point. However, Djokovic did not allow a break and the decision was made in the tiebreak.
In the short decision the Serbian got the perfect start, worked out a mini-break and took the lead 3:0. The favourite extended his lead and secured the first set with a clear 7:1 in the tiebreak.
In the second run, the first break of the match was not long in coming. Djokovic increased his game and put Anderson on the defensive, who could not withstand the pressure of the Wimbledon and US Open winners. A quick 3-0 lead was the logical consequence of Djokovic’s power tennis.
The title contender did not give up the lead and did not give Anderson a chance to catch up with his own service. A highly deserved 7:6 (1) and 6:3 victory at the end of the match will give the Serbian another place in the semi-finals this year. In the last four Djokovic will face Alexander Zverev, who won against Kyle Edmund in two sets.
Djokovic’s semi-final appearance in the Chinese metropolis will preserve his chances of winning his fourth title. In 2012, 2013 and 2015, the 31-year-old grabbed the title.
