Andrea Petkovic’s successful run in Linz has come to an end. The athlete from Darmstadt lost after a strong start to the Russian qualifier Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets.
Petkovic, who had entered the main peloton of the WTA tournament in Linz with a wild card, made a brilliant start and won the first set 6:0. In the second round, however, Ekaterina Alexandrova fought her way back into the match, winning 6:4 and 6:0 after 101 minutes. In the final, the Russian will play Camila Giorgi on Sunday, who won two sets against Alison van Uytwanck in the first semi-final.
Petkovic can nevertheless look back on a successful week in Linz – right at the beginning of the tournament she took the number one of the event out of the table with Julia Görges. And this after defending a match point. Then followed two sovereign victories against Tatjana Maria and Kristina Mladenovic. Against Alexandrova Petkovic was at the end the air outside.
Petkovic will compete in Luxembourg next week, after which she will finish her season. In the WTA world rankings, Petkovic from Darmstadt will make a leap forward, with the points from Linz Petkovic improves by 16 positions to rank 66.
