ATP: Philipp Kohlschreiber wins nervous battle against Australian de Minaur

Philipp Kohlschreiber has reached the round of 16 of the ATP tournament in Stockholm.

The 35-year-old Augsburg player won the generation duel against the only 19-year-old Australian talent Alex de Minaur after 2:44 hours playing time with 7:6 (7:3), 6:7 (2:7), 6:1. Kohlschreiber now meets the Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco.

Against the world rankings-31. de Minaur Kohlschreiber led in the second set for a long time with a break and missed four match points at 5:4 from his point of view. In the decisive round, the German, who was four places lower in the world rankings, increased his score and turned his fifth match point into victory.

After the short-term cancellation of Peter Gojowczyk (Munich) and the opening defeat of Maximilian Marterer (Nuremberg), Kohlschreiber is the last remaining German in the Swedish capital.
