Dayana Yastremska is unstoppable. The 18-year-old Ukrainian is already in the semi-finals again after her victory in Hong Kong at the WTA tournament in Luxembourg, where she will play Belinda Bencic.
When you’re 18 years old and you’re swimming on a wave of success, the word “travel stress” is probably only known from hearsay: Dayana Yastremska won her first tournament ever at the WTA tournament in Hong Kong last Sunday, then got on the plane – and is now back in the semi-finals of an event at the highest women’s level, this time in Luxembourg.
Yastremska, who had made the top 100 in the world rankings for the first time with her final win against Qiang Wang, only needed 61 minutes to defeat Margarita Gasparyan 6:1 and 6:4. Prior to that, the Ukrainian had already taken Garbine Muguruza out of the competition, also smoothly in two sets.
In the preliminary round, Yastremska is now waiting for an exciting task: Belinda Bencic. For her part, the Swiss did not let Vera Lapko burn a dime, won 6:4 and 6:1 and reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2016.
In the upper half of the tableau, on the other hand, a German duel is in the offing: Andrea Petkovic will face Eugenie Bouchard in the last quarter-final of the day, with tournament favourites Julia Görges playing Donna Vekic before.
