ATP: Stockholm: Philipp Kohlschreiber eliminated in quarter finals

Philipp Kohlschreiber, US Open finalist of the last sixteen, was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the ATP tournament in Stockholm.

The 35-year-old from Augsburg lost against the number three seeded Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas with 3:6, 6:7 (4:7). Kohlschreiber thus lost both duels against the 20-year-old after his defeat in Dubai in February. Tsitsipas will face Fabio Fognini, Italy’s number two seeded player, in the semi-finals.

In the first set Kohlschreiber, current number 35 in the world rankings, fended off a break point against himself. He then conceded the 1:3 and Tsitsipas himself did not lose a service game. In the second set Kohlschreiber quickly took the lead with 3:0 and had two set balls at 5:3, which he did not use.

Oscar Otte from Cologne and Maximilian Marterer (Nuremberg) had already been eliminated in the Swedish capital from the hard court tournament, which was endowed with almost 690,000 euros.
