ATP: Jürgen Melzer has to give w.o. because of gastrointestinal infections

Jürgen Melzer’s second appearance at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Vienna will be nothing. The Lower Austrian cannot play his match against Kevin Anderson.

What bad luck for Jürgen Melzer: the Austrian veteran had to cancel his second appearance against Kevin Anderson at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Vienna a few minutes before the start of the match. The Lower Austrian has got a gastrointestinal infection, making it impossible to compete against the Wimbledon finalist this year.

At the beginning of his last single tournament Melzer had beaten a man from the top of the world with the Canadian Milos Raonic, against Anderson the chances for another sensation would have been a little smaller.

Another Austrian was also eliminated in Vienna: Dennis Novak lost to the Russian Karen Khachanov in two sets, so he could not repeat his entry into the second round from last year.
