Second success for French Open finalist Sloane Stephens celebrated her second victory at the WTA final in Singapore. The American defeated Kiki Bertens in three sets.
Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands missed out on an early entry into the semi-finals at the WTA final in Singapore. The 26-year-old lost her second group match against French Open finalist Sloane Stephens (USA) with 6:7 (4), 6:2, 3:6. This means that all four players in the Red Group still have a chance of entering the preliminary round.
Stephens, on the other hand, celebrated her second victory on the pitch after leaving Naomi Osaka no chance in two sets at the start. For the US-American, these successes are somewhat surprising; last year Stehens had not won a match after winning the US Open title.
Bertens had defeated Angelique Kerber in three sets at the start, and if she had won again, she would not have been able to lose her place in the semi-finals. Kerber will play Stephens in the last group game on Friday, and the Kielerin will be in the semi-finals if she wins.
