ATP: Roger Federer wins Basel quarter finals over Jan-Lennard Struff

Roger Federer remains on course for his ninth title win at the ATP World Tour 500 event in Basel. The Swiss defeated Jan-Lennard Struff in two sets.

Struff started strong, was quickly in the lead with a break. However, Federer fought back and showed himself to be much better than his bumpy first-round performance against Filip Krajinovic. After only 67 minutes the Swiss won 6:3 and 7:5.

Roger Federer does not yet know his quarter-final opponent in Basel – the eight-time tournament winner will face either Ernests Gulbis or Gilles Simon.

Previously, Alexander Zverev had defeated 19-year-old Australian Alexei Popyrin in two sets, as had Stefanos Tsitsipas Zverev’s compatriot Peter Gojowczyk. Zverev plays Roberto Bautista-Agut in the quarter-finals, Tsitsipas has to deal with Daniil Medvedev.
