Kiki Bertens is in the semi-finals of the WTA Finals in Singapore. The Dutch player benefited from Naomi Osaka’s abandonment after losing the first set.
47 minutes working time for Kiki Bertens on Friday afternoon in Singapore – then the Dutchman, who had defeated Angelique Kerber in three sets at the start of the WTA final, fixed her entry into the semi-finals at her first appearance at the season finale. With a slightly bitter aftertaste: US Open winner Naomi Osaka had to give up after the 3:6 in the first set.
Already at the score of 3:5 a treatment break had taken place, even leaving the Center Court in Singapore. One game later, the Japanese player had to end her 2018 season.
In the last group game Angelique Kerber meets Sloane Stephens (1:30 pm, in our LIVE-TICKER) – the winner of this game also enters the preliminary round. Should Kerber win, the German would complete the group in second place behind Bertens. If Stephens had remained successful, the American would have won the preliminary round as well.
In the White Group, Elina Svitolina prevailed over Karolina Pliskova. Kerber would therefore meet the Ukrainian in any case in the event of victory. Svirolina had said goodbye to defending champion Caroline Wozniacki.
