ATP/WTA: The Social Media Ranking of Tennis Stars

Simona Halep and Rafael Nadal lead the world rankings. But what about the social networks? Can the two best tennis players in the world also score there? Together with Storyclash we also provide the current social media ranking.

Interesting: The Storyclash ranking only measures interactions on the in-house channels (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram) of the tennis stars. Accordingly, actors who post frequently are usually listed with more likes, comments and shared posts.

In September, a very clear picture emerged, especially among the ladies. Superstar Serena Williams has an almost monopolistic position among tennis players on the social networks. The American generated a total of 10,743,424 interactions on her channels.

Especially noteworthy is the fact that the 23-time Grand Slam winner has completed the twelve postings with the most interactions. Only on rank 13 follows a contribution of the US Open Champion Filly Naomi Osaka. It is also the Japanese woman who ranks second behind Williams in the social media ranking.

The post office with the most interactions with the ladies:

With 3,885,401 interactions, the 21-year-old did not even generate half as many as Williams. Compared to the previous month of August, however, it was still able to make up 13 strong places – which is probably also due to its triumph in the Big Apple.

Directly behind her are Maria Sharapova and Eugenie Bouchard. Despite the rather meagre results in 2018, the two of them can look forward to good social media figures. The Russian reaches almost two million interactions on her channels, while for the Canadian it was almost half as many.

Meanwhile the German Angelique Kerber is on position eight of the slightly different world rankings. Compared to August, it lost two places. Elina Svitolina, Dominika Cibulkova and Caroline Wozniacki are ahead of her. Surprising: World number one Simona Halep only ranks 15th on the list.

Unlike the women’s ranking, the men’s ranking is quite similar to the world ranking. Novak Djokovic, who wants to displace Rafael Nadal from number one this year, is already ahead at least on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Serena Williams can’t even hold a candle to Nole. 5,733,410 interactions are about half as many as Williams. Also the post with the most Likes, comments and Shares set the Serbian off.

Djokovic is closely followed by Roger Federer. The Swiss was still in the lead in the social media ranking in August, but in September he had to cope with a gap of more than one million interactions to the 14-time Grand Slam winner. Third place goes to Rafael Nadal, the world number one.

The post office with the most interactions with the gentlemen:

As on the court, the “big three” also dominate the social networks. The fourth in the social media ranking, Juan Martin del Potro, could not even break the one million mark. And that despite his final appearance at the US Open.

Even Dominic Thiem could not reach this number. Nevertheless, the Austrian ranks a remarkable fifth place, far ahead of eleventh-placed Alexander Zverev from Germany.

There is still a big surprise for the men: The Portuguese Joao Sousa is sixth in the rankings ahead of Grigor Dimitrov, Kei Nishikori and Nick Kyrgios. Especially on Instagram, the 48th of the ATP world rankings reached many people.

In general, there is a clear tendency towards the instagram. While Facebook was number one a few years ago, the changing of the guard seems to have already taken place: All tennis professionals have far more interactions on Instagram than on Facebook or Twitter.
