ATP: Andre Agassi new Dimitrov coach?

Eight-time major champ Andre Agassi is apparently back in the coaching business.

Is a new player-trainer dream couple on the horizon here? Or is everything already fixed – and nobody has noticed? At the Masters Tournament in Paris-Bercy, there was at least some amazement when Grigor Dimitrov appeared with tennis legend Andre Agassi on Sunday and he gave first tips during training with Rafael Nadal.

Dimitrov did not have a good season after his strong year 2017 with the highlight of the victory at the ATP Finals in London. The Bulgarian only occupies 22nd place in the annual classification – too little to be back in London and defend his title. The 27-year-old’s season had started well with the quarter-finals in Melbourne and the final in Rotterdam; a semi-final in Monte Carlo was the best result afterwards.

In the last five matches, however, Dimitrov suffered four defeats. Did Agassi at the last event for Dimitrov in Paris have any initial ideas on how things would get better – or did they consider a test run for a joint 2019 season? There’s still no official statement from the two of them.

A new engagement as coach would also be exciting for Agassi. His time as supercoach for Novak Djokovic ended after only a few months in March this year. His quote: “We agree that far too often we disagree.”
