WTA Elite Trophy: Muguruza defends three match points and enters the semi-finals

Garbine Muguruza played her way into the last four in Zhuhai with an impressive fighting performance.

Opponent Anastasija Sevastova had already served her opponent to win the match with a 5:4 lead in set three, but Muguruza did not give in, broke back and then played a perfect tiebreak – 6:7 (4), 6:2, 7:6 (1) was the final score for the two-time Major winner.

Ashleigh Barty had already qualified for the preliminary round before, but without any action on her part – she benefited from Caroline Garcia’s 6-4, 6-4 victory, which neither Garcia nor her opponent Aryna Sabalenka were able to make it to the next round.

Madison Keys and Qiang Wang will play the last game of the preliminary round.

Julia Görges had already reached the semi-finals yesterday.
