Austria’s youngster Jurij Rodionov caused a stir with his crazy jubilation after his first round victory at the ATP-Challenger in Bratislava. Now he’s taken the floor.
This video caused quite a stir among the tennis fans yesterday! Some spoke of the most dramatic rejoicing of all time, others of the most arrogant dance of all.
Now the 19-year-old has explained on his Facebook page that he and his opponent Ignatik have never understood each other, which has led to a special rivalry. In addition, there was a heated atmosphere and tight referee decisions.
“After he refused me the handshake, although I waited for him twice at the net, it cooked in me. As a reaction to this, I did the cheering with pose. In retrospect and above all in isolation, it was probably too much of a good thing, but it happened out of pure emotion,” Rodionov continued.
Rodionov will face Evgeny Donskoy in round two. Also represented in the tournament from Austria are Dennis Novak and, already in the quarter-finals: Sebastian Ofner.
