No sense of achievement for the Austrian participants on the first day of the ATP Finals in London. After Dominic Thiem, Alexander Peya also lost his opening match at Nikola Mektic’s side.
Two disgraceful service losses were enough to screw up Alexander Peya and his partner Nikola Mektic’s start into the ATP Final in London. In the first set it was the Austrian who gave up his first service game, in the second Mektic lost his service at 4:4. The opponents, the two seeded Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal accepted with thanks, won after a playing time of 69 minutes safely with 6:3 and 6:4.
Behind Peya’s start was a question mark until the middle of the week. Problems with the elbow had put the Viennese out of action for months, Peya had to brake especially at the serve, the first test with full power actually took place on Friday in London.
In the very last game of the match, the Austrian-Croatian pair almost forced extra time, but the Colombians fended off all three break points from Peya and Mektic.
