Next Gen ATP Finals: Stefanos Tsitsipas wins Final

The Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas has won the second edition of the Next Gen ATP Finals. In the final he beat the Australian Alex de Minaur in four sets.

With 2:4, 4:1, 4:3 (3), 4:3 (3) the world rankings-15th won the final of the U21 tournament and thus became the successor of Hyeon Chung, who had won at the premiere last year. At that time Tsitsipas was still the substitute in Milan.

The top seeded Tsitsipas has won all five matches this week, in the group matches he remained undefeated. “I have learned that I am a fighter and have a great heart. Also, that I can play well under pressure,” he explained afterwards.

By the start of the season, the 21-year-old had only won four matches at tour level, in 2018 alone there were more than fifty, and Tsitsipas also won the “Most Improved Player of the Year” award.

His biggest success outside Milan was reaching the final of the Masters tournament in Toronto, where Novak defeated Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. He had also made it to the final at the Barcelona tournament, where Nadal was also the strongest. Tsitsipas won his first ATP tournament in late Stockholm.

Andrey Rublev from Russia won the game for third place with 1:4, 4:3 (4), 2:4, 4:2, 4:3 (3) against Jaume Munar from Spain.
