Both players clearly lost their opening match in London’s O2 Arena. Last year, Federer had failed in the semi-final against David Goffin and this year again he is chasing title number seven in the tournament of the best eight players of the season. Thiem did not make it beyond the group stage at his first two appearances in London in 2016 and 2017.
