Alpine Skiing: Parallel World Cup to have its own kick-off event

The FIS is apparently planning an innovation that will further enhance the parallel competitions of alpine skiers.

In the week following the annual World Cup kick-off scheduled for the end of October with two giant slaloms in Sölden, there will be a parallel and parallel team kick-off event from the 2020/21 season, which will also be part of the World Cup.

A corresponding proposal of the Technical Committee was supported on Friday at the Council Meeting of the International Ski Federation in Oberhofen.

Furthermore, the FIS announced that a final decision will be taken at the Council meeting in February 2019 as to whether the Alpine combination should be replaced by a single parallel event at World Championships and Olympic Games in the future.

It was also announced that Hinterstoder will host the Alpine Junior World Championships in 2023.
