The eight teams for the Hopman Cup from 29 December 2018 to 5 January 2019 have been selected. Among others, Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber will serve in Perth.
Roger Federer will start the tournament alongside his partner Belinda Bencic as defending champion. Last year, the Swiss pair won the final against Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber. The Germans will also start with the same line-up, so a new edition of the final is anything but out of the question.
The USA and Spain should be among the two teams’ biggest rivals at the beginning of next year. Legendary Serena Williams and up-and-coming youngster Frances Tiaofe will form the duo for the Americans, while the Iberians Garbine Muguruza and former champion David Ferrer will play for them. For the French Open finalist of 2013, it will be the last appearance in Perth – “Ferru” will end his career next year.
Group A is made up of Germany, Spain, France and Australia. The French will be competing with Lucas Pouille and Alize Conet and have a good chance of winning the tournament, while Matt Ebden and Ashleigh Barty are among the most outspoken at their home tournament.
The USA and Switzerland still have to deal with Greece and Great Britain in their group. Especially the Greeks can count on a strong team with Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari. Cameron Norrie and Katie Boulter have little chance of success in the top-class Group B.
