Rafael Nadal has yet to return to the tennis courts. Now the second in the world rankings is doing good on the golf course.
Just a few days ago, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson held a much-noticed duel near Las Vegas, at least in the USA. In “The Match” the two legends played for a record prize money, in the end Mickelson left the field with a cheque for nine million US dollars.
It is not yet known that “Lefty” will do anything useful with this sum other than expand its fleet. In mid-December, another left-handed player is taking a different approach: Rafael Nadal has arranged to meet another all-time great of golf, Jose Maria Olazabal, and will hold a tournament whose proceeds will benefit the victims of the natural disaster on Mallorca.
Olazabal and Nadal will tee off at the Pula Golf Resort on Mallorca on 14 and 15 December, the event will be held in the form of a ProAms. On the tennis court, however, the fans have seldom seen the world runner-up active lately: Nadal had ended his 2018 season after giving up against Juan Martin del Potro in the semi-finals of the US Open.
The 32-year-old also had to cancel the ATP final in London due to ankle surgery. The same was the victim of a planned show fight against Novak Djokovic in Saudi Arabia.
