WTA: Sofia Arvidsson becomes new tournament director in Bastad!

Sofia Arvidsson from Sweden will be the new tournament director of the WTA tournament in Bastad. The event will take place next year from 8 to 14 July.

Arvidsson was a professional tennis player from 1999 to 2016 and won two titles on the WTA Tour during her career. Both in 2005 and 2012 it prevailed in Memphis. She also played in the German Tennis Bundesliga for the TEC Waldau Stuttgart and the TC Blau-Weiss Berlin. Her career high is 29th.

Starting next year, the 34-year-old will now be tournament director at her home tournament in Bastad. In the past season the tournament did not take a place in the WTA calendar, in 2017 Katerina Siniakova won the final against Caroline Wozniacki.

If the tournament was still part of the International Series until 2017, it will take place in the coming season as a WTA 125K event. This tournament category can be compared to the ATP Challenger Tour. Following the women’s event, a men’s event will take place from 14 to 21 July 2019. The defending champion of the ATP 250 tournament is Fabio Fognini from Italy.
