Venus Williams will compete in the Mubadala Championships. Although her opponent at the exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi has not yet been determined, the 38-year-old is nevertheless looking forward to her appearance in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
“In general, it is fantastic that the tournament is bringing tennis to Abu Dhabi. It’s great that women are now coming there,” said Venus Williams in an interview with Sport 360. The eleventh edition of the event will be the second time that women will play there.
In 2018 her sister Serena and Jelena Ostapenko celebrated the women’s premiere in the Emirates. Almost twelve months ago, the French Open winner of 2017 was able to assert herself in three competitive rounds.
“Serena played here last year. It was an exciting time and she had a great season afterwards, so I hope I can do the same and have a great season. I feel strong”, the 38th of the WTA World Ranking looks forward positively to the coming year.
The event will take place from 27 to 29 December 2018. Parallel to the women’s game, a tournament with six players will be held on the men’s side. Among others, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem will compete in Abu Dhabi.
