Boxing: Ex-World Champion Markus Beyer deceased

The former boxing world champion Markus Beyer has died after a short, serious illness. Beyer was only 47 years old and died on Monday in a Berlin hospital.

Born in Saxony, he celebrated his greatest success as a professional in 1999. With a victory over the Brit Richie Woodhall, Beyer became world champion in super middleweight for the first time.

“He was my favorite boxer, a great person,” his long-time coach Ulli Wegner told SID.
