Alpine skiing: Papa Ferdinand Hirscher: “Afraid for Marcel”

Marcel Hirscher returns at the weekend to the place of one of his most important triumphs. In Val d’Isere the man from Salzburg celebrated his first World Cup victory almost exactly nine years ago, on 13 December 2009.

“This was the most emotional moment in Marcel’s career for me. You fight for years, starting with the district cup races, and then you win the World Cup. The highest you can achieve, except for the Olympics and the World Championships,” explains Hirscher’s father Ferdinand in the crown.

The 63-year-old also reveals that he trembled a lot at the beginning of his son’s career: “I was afraid at the time that his elders might put him under pressure, even psycho terror.

However, this fear was completely unfounded, since the ÖSV stars of the time welcomed and supported the young Marcel Hirscher well: “A Matt, a Raich or an Autumn, they took full care of Marcel”.
