WTA: Serena Williams meets sister Venus at the Mubadala Championships

Serena Williams will meet her older sister Venus at the Mubadala Championships in Abu Dhabi. For the 23-time Grand Slam winner, it will be the second appearance at the exhibition event in the United Arab Emirates.

Last year, the 37-year-old lost to former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko at the premiere edition of the women’s event in three contested sets. On her return to Abu Dhabi, Serena Williams now meets her more experienced sister Venus in the Sister act.

“I loved playing in Abu Dhabi last year. This time I play against my sister, so it will be even more special”, the 16th of the WTA world rankings is already looking forward to the duel with Venus Williams.

John Lickrish, CEO of main sponsor Flash Entertainment, can hardly wait for the meeting: “We are absolutely thrilled that Serena is coming back. Their match against Venus will be one not to be missed,” he scattered to the two protagonists in the run-up to the event.

In the Head to Head of the two US-Americans it is 18:12 for Serena, also the last duel at the US Open was won by Alexis Olympia’s mother. At the Exhibition Tournament in the Emirates, however, the two of them will probably be mainly concerned with finding a good touch for the first Grand Slam tournament of the year in Melbourne.

Parallel to the women’s game, a tournament with six players will be held on the men’s side. Among others, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem will compete in Abu Dhabi. The event will take place from 27 to 29 December 2018.
