K.o.! Fury is champion after boxing gala

Las Vegas – Tyson Fury is the new WBC World Champion. In Las Vegas the “Gypsy King” shows a brilliant performance and ends the series of Deontay Wilder impressively.

Tyson Fury is again heavyweight boxing world champion after a gala performance.

The 31-year-old Briton won in the MGM Grand of Las Vegas against defending champion Deontay Wilder (USA) by technical knockout in the seventh round and is the new WBC Champion. For Fury it was the 30th victory in the 31st fight. This victory also keeps him “Ruler Champion” in the heavyweight division. Wilder, however, suffered his first defeat at professional level ever in the 44th fight.

“The king has returned to the throne,” Fury said, but praised his opponent. “He has shown the heart of a champion. He is a warrior, he will come back, he will become world champion again,” he said about Wilder.

Fury: “The king is back on the throne”
After his triumph, the “Gypsy King” in the ring sang the song “American Pie” and sounded: “The King is back on the throne.”

“The best man won today. My corner threw in the towel, but I was ready to keep fighting,” said the 34-year-old “Bronze Bomber”. According to ESPN, Wilder was taken to hospital for several tests after the fight.

“Deontay is fine, he will come back,” said Wilder’s coach Jay Deas according to MailOnline: “He had a little cut in his ear, which probably strained his balance. He’s going to have a few stitches.”

Wilder goes down early
In front of 17,000 spectators in the sold-out arena, Fury showed a very dominant performance. According to CompuBox he hit 82 of 267 shots, while Wilder could only hit 34 of 141. From the beginning he set the pace of the fight and landed some effective hits, especially with his right hand. With his higher weight, Fury also repeatedly entered the infight and jammed Wilder, from which he could only free himself with enormous effort.

Wilder went down for the first time in the third round and seemed to be badly hit from then on. Among other things he bled from his ear. But the US-American showed strong taker qualities and saved himself from round to round.

Curious: In the sixth round wild blood dripped on the shoulder, Fury stuck out his tongue while clutching it.

However, after a real hail of blows in round seven, the referee stopped the fight – too great was the risk of long-term damage to the health of the poacher, who no longer seemed to be in good health.

Fury now against Joshua?
“The Gypsy King” Fury has already been world champion once, after he surprisingly dethroned Wladimir Klitschko (Ukraine) in November 2015 in Düsseldorf by a unanimous points victory. The boxer from Manchester then went through a difficult time with drug affairs, depression and suicidal thoughts. In October 2016 he returned his belts.

It is not yet clear what the future holds for Fury. Either there will be a third edition against Wilder, the first fight ended in December 2018 with a draw. Or Fury can look forward to a mega-fight against fellow countryman Anthony Joshua, who holds the titles of the other three important heavyweight federations (IBF, WBO and WBA).
