ATP: Pablo Cuevas makes Austrian double perfect in Vienna

Pablo Cuevas and Rohan Bopanna have won the doubles competition in the Wiener Stadthalle. The two beat Sam Querrey and Marcel Demoliner in three short sets in the final.

Pablo Cuevas took another break before the decisive match tiebreak, was jogging to the toilet with his play equipment. Together with his partner Rohan Bopanna, he had to fend off two match balls before he made the Austrian double clear in 2017: The successes at the Stadthalle in Vienna and at the tournament in Kitzbühel. That’s where Cuevas won with Guillermo Duran.

7:6 (7), 6:7 (4) and 11:9, so it was on the scoreboard at the end – to the disadvantage of Marcel Demolier and his US-American partner Sam Querrey. The latter had already been eliminated early in the individual competition and wanted to leave for Paris in the afternoon. Querrey has a walk-through there, and in round two he will face either Yuchi Sugita from Japan or a qualifier.

For Cuevas and Bopanna it was the second big title in the current campaign. In spring, the Indo-Uruguayan pair even won the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo.
