WTA: Finals: Babos/Hlavackova win double title

Timea Babos and Andrea Hlavackova have won the title in the WTA final of the best eight doubles teams in Singapore. The Hungarian and Czech players beat Kiki Bertens/Johanna Larsson (Netherlands/Sweden) in the final in 1:30 hours with 4:6,6:4,10:5 against Kiki Bertens/Johanna Larsson and, in addition to the Martina Navratilova trophy, received a total prize money of 500,000 dollars.

Babos/Hlavackova, who were seeded third in the semi-final, had eliminated their favourite pairing Martina Hingis/Chan Yung-Jan (Switzerland/Taiwan/No. 1)6-4,7-6 (7-5). Hingis (37) had already announced last week that she would end her career after the Singapore tournament.

Anna-Lena Grönefeld (Nordhorn) was the only German participant to be eliminated alongside Czech Kveta Peschke in her opening match against US opener Hingis/Yung-Jan. Venus Williams (USA) and Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark were facing each other in the singles final on Sunday.
