Serena Williams has sharply criticized Tennys Sandgren and his questionable views. The US-American demands an apology from her compatriot. The 23-times Grand Slam winner also announced the time of her return to the WTA tour.
“Personally, I don’t want or need an apology,”twittered Williams.”But there’s a whole bunch of people who deserve an apology.”
After making sensational progress into the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, Sandgren was increasingly criticized for his activities on the social media platforms. The 26-year-old emphasized that his Twitter profile did not represent the values he was convinced of. He then deleted all the tweets of the past few months.
“I cannot look into my daughter’s eyes,”Williams continued,”and tell her that I was leaning back and being silent. No! She’ll know how to defend her own interests and those of others – thanks to me.”
Meanwhile, Williams confirmed her participation in the WTA tournament in Indian Wells from 5th to 15th October. till 18. March. Prior to that, she is representing on 10. and 11. In February, the American Fed Cup team started to defend its title with a home duel against the Netherlands.
At her last appearance two years ago, Williams made it to the final in California, where she was defeated by Belarusian Viktoria Azarenka. Prior to that, Williams boycotted the tournament for years after racist incidents occurred in 2001.
